Deborah McKellar’s printed designs aim to invoke conversations, hence the name “Talking Textiles” These textile products ‘talk’ of Singapore, through the stylized designs of everyday objects such as the Kopitiam cup.
“Much of my inspiration comes from textiles that are found in Singapore such as; Chinese silks, Peranakan embroidery and Malay batiks. Inspired by these traditional objects I will then reinterpret what I have seen in my own unique way, giving the design a contemporary dimension.”
